Stats Empty Stats

Stats. How many hate them. They are useful, however; and while we'd prefer not to have them, it's just the easiest way to maitain some semblence of balance in site. What with the vast variety of races and characters that will be appearing, we need some way to quickly judge just what you are and aren't able to do, in regards to basic interactions with the world. Now, that's not to say that there isn't wiggle room, nor that there won't be instances where stats are tossed to the wind in favor of pure writing skills; but in general, we're going to be using them as a basic quick guess guideline to your characters general ability.

On DC, we're using the following basic stats:

  • Speed
  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • Durability
  • Knowledge
  • Wisdom
  • Perception

Speed: How fast your character runs and attacks. This is purely physical movement speeds; it has no relation on magical casting speed or the like. This does tie into how fast you can swing a bat, or stab with a sword, however. Abilties outside of the physical are tied to the item itself, or to your Knowledge stat.

Strength: How physically strong you are. What can your muscles do. This is what determines that. Magical boosting/power are not tied to this, unless otherwise stated in the ability itself.

Endurance: How physically durable are you. This is how much damage you can tank. Again, this is entirely physical in nature. Magical durability is another stat.

Durability: This is your magical resistance stat. How much offensive magic can you handle before you drop.

Knowledge: This is your tech ability stat. The higher your knowledge, the better able you are to handle technology. All races that are able to use basic tools have some starting ability here. You need at least a 1 in this stat to use even basic sticks and wooden tools.

Wisdom: Magic knowldege and ability. Simple as that. The more of this you have, the better your magic is.

Perception: Can you see beyond the veil? This stat determines how well you can see through cloaking skills/magics, divine hide and seek skills, etc. Basically, if you have high Perception, you can see the truth beyond the obvious.

Each stat runs on a 1-20 system; so you can have a maximum of 20 stats per section. While stat boosting, within reason, will be allowed, the hard cap is and will remain 20. Nothing can boost above that number, even for short periods of time. Once you hit 20, it doesn't matter that you could go higher; at that point the scale becomes meaningless. You're talking infinite levels of power/knowledge/ability at 20. No one wants the headache of splitting infinites here.
